2012 DARTS Vista One Design Contest

Type:  Vista One Design Thermal Duration Contest
Event details: AMA rules with Vista One Design as noted below
                        25 foot landing tape, 100 points max,  1 point per 3 inches
                        Seeded Man on Man format for flight groups
Entry Fee: $10

Folks,  

Thanks to the nine brave souls who showed up to fling their frail craft in the wind.

Unfortunately  two pilots experienced how quickly the Vista wing can go from 2 meters to 1 meter. ;-(

A special thanks to Ken Rice for bringing his laptop, chairs, desk and healthy snacks, etc... it was much appreciated by the CD.  

We easily got in 5 rounds but had dropped down to only 5 pilots by the completion of the fourth round.  The task was set at 5 minutes to start and by rounds 4 and  5 we were struggling to make a 3 minute max.  As I recall only two max flights were had all day.  

Al Salas made his 5 minute max in round one and Bill Hoelcher made a 3 minute max in round 5.  The wind really played a part in the staggered launches.  It wasn't uncommon for the first pilot to launch to be  down or nearly down by the time pilot number 4 or 5 launched.  

Anyways, give these guys who braved the wind with their Vistas a round of applause.

2012  DARTS Vista One Pre-Contest Info

                                                       The Vista

 This is the first of 2 days of flying:
Vista One Design -  Saturday June 2, 2012 
2 Meter - Sunday June 3, 2012 (Vista's allowed though they are slightly over 2 meters)
Dave Wrinkle, CD Vista One Design Contest

If any pilot would like someone else to launch his airplane for him, we will do that.
Both days should be pretty low key

Vista One Design Rules:
This is a one design contest using the Tower Hobbies Vista ARF http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/towa4010_n.html..  

We will will fly the standard AMA Thermal Duration Rules, with the 100 point, 25 foot landing tape, 1 point per 3 inches
Task times will be determined on the day of the event.
See the Rules link at the left for further details.

Acceptable modifications are:
Adjust wing and or elevator incidence.
Move servo positions
Replace push rods with other material
Change the aircraft's markings
Make a two piece wing provided it does not add any strength to the wing

Unacceptable modifications:
Change the outside lines of the aircraft other than for wing and elevator incidence
Main spar must be stock and not reinforced with carbon fiber or other material
Repairs with original materials are ok
Aircraft that place may be asked to submit to a X-ray and MRI to prove adherence to these well thought out rules

Rules under consideration:
Helmet,  flack jacket and goggles mandatory
Hitting the CD on landing is loss of all contest points.
