2012 DARTS Unlimited OVSS Contest     Sunday, August 19,  2012   -   Results 



Jerry Shape continued his winning ways on Sunday by again leading the pack.  Good flying Jerry!

Sunday's CD's Report:

I can't remember two better days  for a contest at DARTS.

The field was set up just like Saturday, launching to the North.

Turn out was not as good as we hoped but  that's the way it goes. Was great to see Bob Massmann back out and Ryan W from Indy. I know Dave W and Skye would have liked to have been there.

Task was my standard 13 minutes.. The idea of the 13 minutes is to make it a flying contest but for 4 rounds it look like a landing contest with lots of maxes round after round.

Going into the 5th round,  Ronnie had a slight lead over Marc and I was in 3rd a ways back. The first group got the first bad air of the day with the best time in the four min range.  There was talk about the top group having to fly in that bad air and it did hang around.  I was very lucky to come out on top and was able to out hang Ronnie by about 2-1/2 minutes.

Round 6 was back to the good  air with most making their times. I had won for the second day of the weekend.

A couple standout things on Sunday  were Bob Massmann's  flight were it seemed he was at 50 feet for 10 minutes and Albie getting sky high time after time with his poly plane. Last thing Joe M really did all the work this weekend. He set up the flight groups, scoring and took all those pictures and then put all that on the webpage. I was blown away with all he did. Thank you Joe

Sunday's highlights:

Good weather again was the order of the day with light winds out of the North

13 contestants from Ohio and several surrounding states made up the pilot's list

We flew 13 minute maxes and got in 6 rounds before the pre-announced ending time of 3:00 PM (after which no round would start)

Good flying was done by all with many flight groups making time. 

Jerry Shape prevailed again as the winner by making time and getting good landing points consistently. Jerry had a good weekend for sure!

2nd thru 5th places were earned by Ron Mong, Norm Poti, Marc Gellart and Ryan Woebkenberg respectively

David Rice flying a backup airplane (he lost the nose of his Mantis on a tow late in the day on Saturday) won his flight group by outscoring the others in his flight group in round 5..  Good job David.  A nice close to the contest for him.

A good time was had by all
